MyInterpreter · Legal

Terms of Use

Draft v1 — 2026-10-15 — pending legal review

Version 1 · Takes effect when MyInterpreter is released (not yet in effect)

These Terms of Use are an agreement between you and SocialDNA Systems LLC for the use of MyInterpreter — the app and its web pages. Please read them with our Privacy Policy and Personal Data Declaration, which explain how we handle your data. By creating an account or using MyInterpreter, you accept these terms.

1. About these terms

  • MyInterpreter is a socialDNA product provided by SocialDNA Systems LLC, a Virginia limited liability company ("we", "us").
  • The English version of these terms is the only binding version. Translations are a courtesy; if they differ, the English version prevails.
  • Nothing in these terms takes away rights that the law says cannot be waived, including consumer rights in the EU, the UK and Brazil.

2. Eligibility and your account

  • You must be at least 16 years old to use MyInterpreter.
  • You must be 18 or older to set up a voice signature, to turn on or accept a Certified conversation record and to buy a subscription — or have a parent or guardian buy it where the app store allows.
  • You may not use MyInterpreter if the law forbids you to, or if we previously closed your account for breaking these terms.
  • Give accurate information, keep your password secret and your phone locked, and tell us at once if you think someone else is using your account. You are responsible for what happens in your account.
  • An account is for one person. Do not create accounts for others or impersonate anyone.

3. The service

MyInterpreter offers: interpreted calls (each phone recognizes its owner's speech, translates it and sends the translated text to the other phone, which speaks it with an interpreter voice); translated chat (text, voice messages and documents, with the original always available); listen mode (translation of the sound around you into your earphones, and conference rooms by QR code); and optional conversation records, including a Certified level.

MyInterpreter is in early access. Features, languages and supported devices may change, be added or be removed. It needs an internet connection and a compatible device (first iPhone with iOS 18 or later; Android later). Some networks — for example certain corporate or carrier networks — block direct connections between phones, and calls may not connect on them. Interpretation adds a short delay after each phrase. We do not promise that the service will always be available or work on every network.

4. Not for emergencies

Emergencies: call from your phone, not from MyInterpreter

Do not use MyInterpreter for 911 or any emergency. MyInterpreter is not a telephone service. It cannot call 911, 112, 190 or any other emergency number, and it does not send your location to anyone. In an emergency, use your phone's dialer and call your local emergency number directly. Do not rely on MyInterpreter when a delay, a dropped call or a wrong translation could put someone's life, health or safety at risk.

5. AI translation: what it is and what it is not

  • Speech recognition, translation and voices are produced by AI. They can mishear, mistranslate, leave things out, arrive late or attribute words to the wrong person — especially with noise, strong accents, slang, technical terms or mixed languages.
  • A MyInterpreter translation is not a certified, sworn, notarized or official translation, and MyInterpreter is not a professional interpreter.
  • Do not rely on it alone for medical, legal, immigration, court, financial or safety decisions. In those situations, use a qualified human interpreter. Where the law gives someone the right to a qualified interpreter (for example in healthcare or in court), MyInterpreter does not replace it.
  • Confirm important information — amounts, dates, doses, addresses, commitments — with the other person, and use the original text or audio when it is available.
  • The interpreter voice is synthetic. Do not present a translation as the exact words of the other person.

6. Acceptable use

You agree not to use MyInterpreter to:

  • record anyone, by any means, without the consent the law requires — including recording calls with other apps or devices, or trying to record in listen mode;
  • impersonate a person or organization, misrepresent your identity or your relationship with someone, or enroll a voice signature that is not your own;
  • send or share illegal content, including content that sexually exploits children, threats, harassment, hate speech, incitement to violence, fraud, scams or spam;
  • infringe other people's rights, including copyright — for example sharing documents you have no right to translate, or capturing films or performances;
  • use it where phones are not allowed — for example in a cinema, court or exam that forbids them — or in a way that distracts you while driving;
  • attack, overload or interfere with the service, bypass its security or limits, scrape it, or access accounts or data that are not yours;
  • copy, modify, reverse engineer or resell the app, except where the law or an open-source license expressly allows it;
  • present yourself or MyInterpreter as a certified interpreting or translation service;
  • break export control or sanctions laws.

We may remove content, limit features or suspend accounts that break these rules, and we may report illegal content to the authorities.

7. Conversation records and their limits as evidence

How records work

  • A record is optional and starts only if both participants accept it at the start of the call. Either one can refuse, and the call then continues without a record. When the two accept different levels, the lower one applies.
  • Levels: Off (default), Text, Text + audio and Certified. Retention: 30 days, 1 year or 5 years, or a legal hold, as accepted by both.
  • Both participants own the record and can read it, listen to it, open a doubt about a phrase and, at the Certified level, verify it and download the signed package.
  • A sealed record is never edited — not even by us. Doubts are kept beside it, never inside it.
  • When the retention period ends, the content is deleted. The fingerprint anchored in the Bitcoin blockchain remains, but reveals nothing.
  • You are responsible for following the recording laws that apply to you and to the people near you.

What a Certified record shows — and what it does not

A Certified record can showHow
Integrity: the record has not changed since it was sealedChained SHA-256 fingerprints, a Merkle root and signatures
Time: when it was madeAn RFC 3161 timestamp and a Bitcoin block
Origin: from which registered device and account each phrase cameAn ECDSA signature made by the phone's secure chip, and the device registration
Consent: both participants accepted the recordEach participant's signed acceptance inside the sealed manifest
The limits of a Certified record

A Certified record does not prove that the translation is accurate. It proves integrity, time, origin and consent. It does not prove who was physically holding the phone, that a statement is true, or what a person meant. The original audio is kept so that a qualified or sworn translator can check the translation. Whether a record is accepted as evidence is decided by the court or authority that receives it, under its own rules. We do not guarantee that any record will be admitted.

Certification relies on third-party services (FreeTSA, OpenTimestamps and the Bitcoin network) that we do not control. If one is unavailable, a record may be sealed later or without that element, and the verification page shows what was completed. On request, we may provide a written declaration describing how records are made and kept; any fee for it will be announced before you ask.

8. Your content

  • What you say, write, record and share in MyInterpreter is yours. We claim no ownership of it or of its translations.
  • You give us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, copy, transmit, translate, process and display your content only to provide MyInterpreter to you and to the people you communicate with, and to keep records as you chose. This license ends when your content is deleted, except for copies the law requires us to keep or that are part of a record the other participant still holds.
  • We do not use your content to train AI models and we do not sell it.
  • You confirm you have the right to share what you send, including documents you ask MyInterpreter to translate.

9. Voice signature

The voice signature is optional and requires your explicit consent on a separate screen. It is created and kept only on your phone and we never receive it. The Privacy Policy explains how and when it is destroyed. You may only enroll your own voice.

10. Subscriptions and billing

Plans: to be announced

Pricing has not been announced. During early access MyInterpreter may be offered free of charge. Before any paid plan applies to you, the app will show its price, what it includes and its billing period, and you will have to accept it.

  • Subscriptions bought in the app are sold and billed by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play) under their terms. The store charges your account, handles taxes and decides refunds under its own policies.
  • Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each period unless you cancel at least 24 hours before it ends. Manage or cancel them in your App Store or Google Play account settings. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription.
  • If a free trial is offered, it becomes a paid subscription at its end unless you cancel before.
  • If we change a price, the store will notify you and, where required, ask for your consent before the new price applies.
  • If paid plans are also sold on the web, the terms shown at checkout will apply.

11. Ending your use, termination and account deletion

  • You can stop using MyInterpreter at any time and delete your account in the app (Profile › Account › Delete account) or by writing to us. Deleting your account is permanent.
  • What happens to your data is described in the Privacy Policy: your account is deleted; records you share with another participant stay available to them until their retention period ends or they remove them; records under legal hold are kept until the hold ends; messages you sent stay with the people you sent them to unless you delete them first.
  • We may suspend or close your account — with notice when possible — if you seriously or repeatedly break these terms, if the law requires it, or to protect users or the service. If we close your account without fault on your part, we will give you a reasonable time to download your data.
  • We may stop offering MyInterpreter. If we do, we will give at least 60 days' notice in the app and by email and time to download your data, and we will help you request a refund of any prepaid, unused period from the store.
  • Sections that by their nature should survive (including 7, 8 and 12 to 21) continue after your account ends.

12. Our intellectual property and your license

  • MyInterpreter — its software, design and content other than yours — belongs to SocialDNA Systems LLC or its licensors and is protected by law. MyInterpreter and socialDNA are our trademarks.
  • We give you a personal, limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable and revocable license to install and use the app on devices you own or control, for your personal or internal business use, under these terms and the app store's usage rules.
  • If you send us ideas or feedback, we may use them without any obligation to you.

13. Third-party and open-source components

  • MyInterpreter includes open-source software, each under its own license. The list and license texts are in the app (Profile › About › Licenses). Nothing in these terms limits the rights those licenses give you.
  • On your phone, MyInterpreter uses the speech, translation and voice engines provided by the operating system (Apple on iPhone, Google on Android). Their use is also subject to the terms of your device's operating system.
  • Certified records rely on independent services (FreeTSA, OpenTimestamps and the Bitcoin network). We are not responsible for how they operate.

14. App Store and Google Play

If you got MyInterpreter from Apple's App Store:

  • These terms are between you and us, not Apple. Apple is not responsible for MyInterpreter or its content.
  • Apple has no obligation to provide any maintenance or support for MyInterpreter.
  • If MyInterpreter fails to conform to an applicable warranty, you may notify Apple and Apple will refund the purchase price, if any. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation for MyInterpreter.
  • We, not Apple, are responsible for any claims relating to MyInterpreter, including product liability claims, claims that it fails to meet legal or regulatory requirements, and consumer protection, privacy and intellectual property claims.
  • You confirm that you are not located in a country subject to a US government embargo or designated by the US government as a "terrorist supporting" country, and that you are not on any US government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
  • Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you.

If you got MyInterpreter from Google Play, Google Play's terms also apply to your download and purchases.

15. Disclaimer of warranties

To the maximum extent permitted by law, MyInterpreter is provided "as is" and "as available". We do not warrant that translations will be accurate or complete, that calls will connect or stay connected, that the service will be uninterrupted, timely or error-free, or that a record will be accepted as evidence. We disclaim implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. Some jurisdictions do not allow these exclusions; there they apply only as far as allowed, and your statutory consumer rights are not affected.

16. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law: (a) we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, revenue, data or goodwill, arising from your use of or inability to use MyInterpreter — including mistranslations, missed or dropped calls, or decisions taken based on a translation; and (b) our total liability for all claims relating to MyInterpreter is limited to the greater of the amount you paid for MyInterpreter in the 12 months before the claim and US$100.

These limits do not apply to liability that cannot be limited by law — such as for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, gross negligence or willful misconduct — or to rights you have as a consumer under mandatory law (for example in the EU, the UK or Brazil).

17. Indemnity

To the extent permitted by law, you agree to defend and indemnify SocialDNA Systems LLC and its members, employees and agents against third-party claims, and related costs including reasonable attorneys' fees, arising from your content, your breach of these terms or your violation of the law or of someone else's rights — including recording someone without the required consent.

18. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia, USA, and applicable US federal law, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. If you are a consumer living in the EU, the UK, Brazil or another country whose law gives you mandatory protection, you keep that protection, and you may also bring proceedings in the courts where you live.

19. Dispute resolution

  1. Talk to us first. Before starting a claim, write to privacy@socialdna.app describing the problem and what you are asking for. We will try to resolve it within 60 days.
  2. Courts. If we cannot resolve it, the dispute will be decided by the state or federal courts located in Virginia, and you and we consent to their jurisdiction — except where the law lets you sue in the courts where you live (section 18). Either of us may instead bring a claim in small-claims court if it qualifies.
  3. Time limit. Where the law allows, a claim must be brought within one year after it arises.
  4. Nothing here prevents either of us from asking a court for urgent measures to protect intellectual property or the security of the service.

20. Changes to these terms

We may change these terms as MyInterpreter evolves. For important changes we will tell you in the app and by email at least 30 days before they take effect and, where required, ask you to accept them again. If you do not agree, you can stop using MyInterpreter and delete your account before the change takes effect. Changes do not apply to disputes that arose before them.

21. General

  • These terms, the Privacy Policy and the Personal Data Declaration are the entire agreement between you and us about MyInterpreter.
  • If a provision is found invalid, the rest remains in force.
  • If we do not enforce a provision, we do not waive it.
  • You may not transfer these terms without our consent. We may transfer them to a company that takes over MyInterpreter, with notice to you.
  • We are not responsible for failures caused by events beyond our reasonable control, such as network or power outages, natural disasters or acts of authorities.
  • We may send you notices in the app or by email to your account address. You may send notices to privacy@socialdna.app.
